Hungary

My study abroad experience began in Hungary. We stayed in the capital city, Budapest (which, as we found out, is actually two separate cities), for four days!

We visited a fermentation workshop, where we learned about the importance of a healthy microbiota and made our own sauerkraut. We tasted plenty of local alcohol at the House of Unicum -- I do not personally recommend it :) Our class also toured the local medical school, Semmelweis University, and walked through various museums, including the Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker and the Semmelweis Museum of Medical History.

Many of us also spent our nights at the world-famous ruin bars, or nightlife centers found in previously abandoned multi-story buildings. I was able to play a game of pick-up basketball with a group of Hungarian and German guys that I met a few minutes away from our hostel. Although my partner and I lost by a few points, it was really fun learning about the city, culture, and the people!
